Ik wil een piemel (I want a dick) is a multidisciplinary artistic research project in collaboration with Mees Elias van Zanten. In this ongoing collaboration, Mees and Lucas both transmasculine explore a desire that is rarely spoken out loud: the desire to have a penis.
While medical transitions are often framed in terms of surgeries, hormones, and social recognition, this specific desire surrounded by shame, taboo, and tensions around masculinity remains strikingly unspoken.
Through papier-mâché sculptures, a film, a short documentary, and a public program, they give this desire literal space. In a joyful and surreal playground of language, video, textiles, bright yellow stars, and absurd papier-mâché objects, Lucas and Mees explore this longing and open up a space where others are invited to engage with it without shame.
We also found it important to create a public program alongside the film where other trans people could actively take part in the project, so we organized a series of “make your own penis” clay workshops.
